something about a cliché
haven't been able to track down the agency-website for these ads, yet they were executed by king of sweden but the google hits were not directing me anywhere I wanted - perhaps the swedish monarch is to blame for that. I've seen several productions from king before and they are worth having a closer look at. this series is a bit cliché though, they caught my attention at once but quite drastically they lost ground for an unknown reason. clichés are primitive, risky and easily worn out, they lack creativity and are effortless in a desperate manner. am I being fastidious?

something about my new job
well, I'm officially an account coordinator at adcorp marketing communications in subiaco (perth). my orientation week is past, and by now I should strive for insight, relevance & results. straightforwardly, it's pretty exciting and completely valuable for my desired career. I work under the government contract, a non-campaign contract, which connotes constant workflow within close deadlines, hence my inbox will allocate much activity, likewise my outbox and related online errands. the people at adcorp have common traits and accommodates enthusiasm, which obviously constitute the foundation of streamlining a business. pretty dry post I know, but don't sigh, I hope to give you joy soon - very soon. if I have time.

something about zero zero 7
sales promotion isn't the sexiest of promotions, yet this 'particular' collaboration is rather 'intriguing' doctor peter ling. definitely something for the slides. very much looking forward to the movie, along with its soundtrack from the white stripes (who by the way is angry with coke for releasing this 'particular' ad, using his lyrics to strengthen the message).
and oh, this is the actual trailer - quantum of solace, perhaps meaning, a portion of comfort in a time of distress or sadness? referring back to casino royal's vesper?

something about communication
mister ari gold
"Listen, Lloyd, I want you to put all my files, folders, binders, *everything* into a box! If you find a used condom, an executioner's mask, and a fucking spike paddle, don't think, just pack that bitch! Chop suey!" / moving offices.
"Lloyd, speak or I'm going to internate you like its 1942." / like every other day.
"I'm ready to go here, all right? It's like R. Kelly at recess." / said to his wife after taking viagra.
"Tell Drama he is on my to-do list right after inserting needles into my cock." / talks to e, then drama ask e to ask him if he found him a job yet.
"I have work to do. I have hundreds of clients to deal with, and just so we’re clear, I don’t care about any of them. They’re all just a number, like Wife #1 and Therapist #7. Good Day!" / with his wife and therapist at the marriage counseling.
"Let me be heard this time and I swear to God, you will be stronger than you ever were. Like Lance Armstrong, but with two balls." / pep-talk with vince.
knows communication like no other.

something about a longing-for campaign
yes, it's the droga5 australia's preview of the VB gold campaign. admittedly, i had unbelievably high expectations for this particular campaign, yet the result somehow corresponds to those. i like the third one best, but it excludes the payoff, i.e. what the actual product is, however, if you watch the top and middle ones first, the message will become clear. these ads could as well work for radio, the rather amusing storytelling correlates well with the message. enjoy.

something about advertising versus PR
an interesting study has been conducted by sara rosengren, doctoral student at handelshögskolan (university of business, stockholm). her study of how noise, or cluster utterly affects the marketing communication process indicates that advertisements are more memorable (hence effective?) than branded articles (PR) - questioning previous results that have indicated the contrary (with no particular example to backup these studies).
the study was basically carried out in clustered environments where the contributers received various messages - advertisement and branded articles - to interpret and later respond to. The result indicated a significant distinction, unveiling that 55 percent could recall the brands from the advertisements, but only 33 percent were able to recall similar information from the articles; still the articles were more trustworthy, yet in the end there were no significant differences of what the respondents actually thought about the brand.
interesting stuff, but does it provide an holistic perspective? moreover, still not to underestimate PR's influence on consumers, even though it might be difficult to measure. furthermore, i do believe that an insightful and honest marketing approach could crown PR king in an increasingly fragmented business and consumer market, yet with little experience to acknowledge that statement. also i do support that original, or controversial if you like, advertising and PR are interrelated, moreover, beneficially collaborated to create an unmetric effect, unwittingly boosting a campaign's impact. but again, what do i know?

something about vigilance
a concealed intrigue of advertising is, in fact, this obvious. the power of advertising could be put into context?
SYDNEY: Qantas is being investigated by Britain’s advertising watchdog after complaints about an ad campaign that claims the airline is the most experienced in the world.
The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) has received complaints from the public about a series of print and television ads for the airline, which have run in the UK in the past year. The ASA is the independent body set up by the advertising industry to police the rules laid down in the advertising codes.
Complainants believe there are older airlines than Qantas. According to the company’s website, it was established in 1920. The ASA will have the investigation complete in about a month.
The timing of the investigation isn't good for Qantas, with the airline receiving unwanted attention for problems with the maintenance of its fleet.
laws, regulation and boundaries is really the dark side of the business, anyone to agree?

something about indoctrination
i just read an essay. this was the opening paragraph.
"regardless of age, regardless of position, regardless of the business we happen to be in, all of us need to understand the importance of branding. we are ceo's of our own companies: me inc. to be in business today, our most important job is to be head marketer for the brand called you."
how much i'm i over that cliché? well then, yeah, i got it! in fact, i got a distinction - so please, don't ever, ever again tell me how important it is for me to dress up nicely for a job interview, what a smile can do when i enter the interviewers' room, that my email address shouldn't be 27inches@hotmail.com, or:
"it's this simple: you are a brand. you are in charge of your brand. there is no single path to success. and there is no one right way to create the brand called you. except this:
start today. or else."
ever again. well, for you who still haven't been indoctrinated - there you go. but whatever you do, don't spend a dime on learning the concepts in-depth - that brand's called confusion, or waste of time.

something about amateurs
a lousy, lousy ad by lins ad & marketing, singapore. the fact that red bull's the client, is even more frightening. makes no sense at all, and i'm not even gonna' explain why. as a matter of fact, one of the worst print ads i've ever come across. shame on you - in fact, shame for the business. well, at least i can keep my personal ambitions alive. i mean, is that really all it takes?

a great thumbnail made by michael prendiville at wa's award school. deserves more than just a raw copy.
