something about shifting gears

with two units presented to me - customer relationship management and new product development - i have no reason to complain at this very moment. tomorrow i will dig into current issues in marketing communications, which indeed seems to appear a bit more demanding, yet challenging. however, after each unit that i've enroll in (with only some exceptions) it seems to me that the field of communication and marketing, on a strategic level that is, really has something to offer me and hopefully vice-versa. besides, if you get all excited by ads like these, you should at least consider to enter this business.

'communication is everything, advertising is really something' (Frisk, 2008). eh, right.

besides learning that the purpose of marketing is something like identifying and establishing, maintaining and enhancing, and when necessary terminating relationships with customers so that the objectives regarding economic and other variable of all parties are met - and this is achieved through the fulfillment of promises (Gronroos, 2007). eh. well, besides that i've just continued my browsing through the work made by students from the miami ad school and found two of my favorites from a rather mediocre range.

pretty good idea from philipp cerny & sebastian groebner - integrating several brand-logos to unite their expertise.

last time i published a post about a creation from a student at miami ad school, in that particular case for an iphone, my critique received some critique itself. for that reason i will keep my thoughts about this ad by brian culp hidden for a little while and instead I will ask you apple-aniacs what you think of the idea?

something about a virgin (or something)

from bbdo in athens comes this ad for bmw used cars. how should you interpret this one? is it effective anyway? not sure, but what i am sure of is that it at least draws attention, hence it communicates something. thus, i can't say wtf to this one because somehow i believe it to communicate really well with the particular greek target audience. not sure if it could work in sweden though - maybe - but in other local areas, for instance in my current hometown perth, it might just be a bulls-eye.

interesting idea - if it wasn't for volkswagen, this ad should never have been posted and without brand equity, this ad could hardly work. well, perhaps in an art-gallery(?).

something about flygbussarna

i can't even count the times i've been traveling with the stockholm metro this summer, yet each time i do so i always come across these 'escalator'-ads for the swedish airport-coaches - the reason for publishing these is not because that i feel forced to, it's because i like them, i like them a lot, and i like 'witty' exaggeration in advertising.

however, even more interestingly they are created by my court-supplier of apparel, acne advertising, a department of acne creative.

- oh by the way, would you like an internship?

- eh(?), yeah sure!

something about a paradox

after a long weekend in the sign of alcohol and irresponsibility, i'd thought these print ads from saatchi & saatchi (malaysia) might represent my paradox. i'm quite fed up with fear-appeal ads, yet these ones are not completely belonging in that category. among four alternatives, these two were the most conspicuous and convincing.

something about salta dopp

only just back from swedish metropol falköping, i steered the wheels toward vartavägen in stockholm where an old friend of mine just received a bunch of super cool, custom-made espadrillos from china. a facebook promotion run and i was sold - two pairs for takin, one pair for my brother and two pairs of 'salta dopp' for me. catch them if you can, rumors reveal that another load from arlanda is being brought back only now - about a thousand pairs in total.
